NEC Calls On Business Owners to Make It Easy For Their Employees to Vote

PHNOM PENH: The National Election Committee (NEC) called on all business owners to ensure their employees are able to make it to the polls on Sunday, July 23, for the National Assembly General Election.

In a letter dated July 7, 2023, the NEC asked that all business owners, companies, factories, hotels, restaurants and enterprises in Cambodia facilitate and permit workers to go vote in the commune where they are registered. The NEC hopes that bosses will make it especially easy for their employees to vote this year.

In two weeks Cambodians will elect the 7th National Assembly by voting for a political party, rather than individuals. Pursuant to Cambodia’s election regulations and procedures, citizens whose names are on the 2022 official voter list have the right to vote on July 23.

Over nine million people are eligible to vote in the 2023 parliamentary elections and the government has ruled that all workers have three days off to go to the polls.
